Within this session with Yan it really opened up my eyes to the idea of having my work as a physical object within a space. What can I do in order to use that space to its fullest potential? My mind was racing with various ideas. She went onto explain about her own exhibitions and how with each one she began to realise what worked and what didn't. By the end of this process she found a way in which she knew she wanted her images to be shown. She liked her images quite large, large enough to see all the fine details as she was shooting on a large format camera. She also liked the map she used to be placed within the space so people could see the route she took whilst embarking on her journey. She gave us a lot of examples to go and view, including Todd Hido's youtube clip of how he installed his work.
This made me brainstorm on what I could do for my work. How did I want my work to be seen? I knew that I wanted at maximum 3 photos to be framed and exhibited. As my images are landscape I would either have to put three images horizontally next to each other or three images vertically above each other. I decided with horizontally as my images are showing a journey I have embarked on. This way the viewer can view this journey in the same way I have. I realised that from the Pop-Up Exhibition that the frames I used didn't work. The frame colour was too light and distracted away from my images. Also the glass was far too reflective that all the detail within my images were lost. If I was to use a frame it would need to be dark wood and also it would need to have museum glass that didn't reflect the lights so that the detail within my images would be seen clearly.
